Although many reports have reported lately that Windows Vista will reduce the need for separate security solutions, Symantec does not appear to be scared.
In a press conference CEO John Thompson said that Symantec will "out-innovate" Microsoft, and said "we know more about security than they ever will."
"Microsoft brand is synonymous with a lot of things. Security is not one of them," he added. Thompson believes that the company's solutions can help businesses build a secure environment so they can develop their businesses instead of being concerned about security issues.
In a report on Wednesday, Cowen & Co. analyst Walter Pritchard said "while the road ahead for Symantec is not paved in gold, it sure has been a bumpy one since late 2004." "Looking ahead, we see fewer potholes and we believe the company has now adequately factored in potential pitfalls," wrote the analyst.
Earlier on Monday the Yankee Group released a report concluding that the release of Vista will affect some smaller software vendors but it wont repeal the larger players like Symantec.
Symantec is prepared for an increase in marketing expenses and to distribute more resources to protecting users using Microsoft systems. |
